Tour module 5 days Sumba Experience

Dag 1 Ratenggaro Village – Weekuri Lake – Mandorak Beach Sunset

Once you arrive at Tambolaka airport in Waitabula, you'll be greeted by your guide, and your journey will begin. We'll start with a delicious lunch at a local restaurant before heading to Kodi's Ratenggaro village. Here, you'll have the chance to see the impressive, handcrafted high rooftops, which are the tallest in all of Sumba. This village is one of the few remaining traditional villages in the area, and although it's just a collection of houses, each house can accommodate up to 50 family members. During the harvest season, most villagers work in the fields and leave only the elders and children in the village. Our next stop is Weekuri Lake, a crystal-clear lake that makes it a great place to swim and to relax. Spend some time in the lake for taking a short (or long) dip. Do not miss to walk around the rocks and reef where you can also see the Oceans from one side. Next to the Weekuri Lake we will find Mandorak Beach, guarded with 2 huge rock ridges pointing to the middle and crystal-clear water.

Dag 2 Daily Activities In Toda Village – Lapopu Waterfall – Praijing Village

Begin your day by enjoying a delicious breakfast, then head to Toda Village to immerse yourself in the daily activities of the Sumbanese people. You'll have the chance to join them in tending to their pets by cutting grass and feeding horses, cows, and pigs. You can even take a horse ride with them and witness the unique Sumba boxing style. Later in the afternoon, we'll make our way to West Sumba and stop for lunch before visiting Lapopu Waterfall. As you drive through the picturesque hilly and green landscape of Sumba, you'll arrive near the waterfall. To reach the waterfall, you'll need to hike for about 15 minutes and cross a bamboo bridge. Once there, you'll find a peaceful spot to sit and watch the water cascade down the hill. Our next stop is the traditional village of Praijing, which is situated uphill and surrounded by lush greenery. From here, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the entire village and gain insight into the way of life there. Take some time to stroll around the village and interact with the friendly locals. You'll find elders weaving ikat (Sumbanese cloth) while children will be eager to share their smiles - don't forget to bring some candies to share with them!

Dag 3 Waigali & Praigoli Village – Galubakul Village – Wairinding Hill Sunset

After a satisfying breakfast and check-out, our journey continues to another village in West Sumba. Our first stop is Praigoli Village, where we'll get to see the Kajiwa Stone and Pasola Field. From there, we'll head to Waigali Village, which is situated on top of a hill and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Here, we can admire the Andung (Scull Tree), which is a must-see attraction. Our next destination is Galubakul Village, home to Sumba's largest tomb. As we make our way to East Sumba, we'll make a stop at Wairinding Hill to witness the mesmerizing sunset.

Dag 4 Natural Dye Traditional Textil Visit – Tanggedu Waterfall – Walakiri Beach Sunset

Following a satisfying breakfast, we'll visit a village where you can discover the intricate process of making Tenun Ikat, Sumba's traditional cloth. Ikat is a reserve dyeing technique where yarn bundles are stretched on a frame and tied with dye-resistant fiber to create intricate patterns before weaving. The patterns are often inspired by human, animal, and supernatural motifs, and the threads are colored before weaving, with some villagers using natural dyes. Then we go Tanggedu waterfall. Tanggedu is a stunning waterfall in East Sumba. To get into this waterfall we need to do about 20 minutes flat trekking and about 15 minutes passing the stairs. The view that you will get along the way is really amazing. As the sun begins to set, we'll make our way to Walakiri Beach to explore its stunning mangroves. You can stroll through the water and observe the enchanting small trees that thrive in the area.
