OfferteDag 1 From Sorong to the jungle
From Sorong town we will head into the rainforest of Sorong Regency towards Klasow valley. We need to use a 4WD jeep which takes us in about 1.5 hours to the valley. We need to continue by foot through the jungle. When it rains, the path can be muddy and there may be leeches. Along our trek you will be able to hear the sounds of birds such as kingfishers, cockatoo and hornbills. It is about 1.5 hours walk over mainly flat terrain, before we will reach the local village of Klasow. This village will be our base camp for further exploration of the area. We will stay in a simple house. In the afternoon we have time to explore the area near the village. If lucky, we will see the cassoway, the second heaviest living bird that looks a bit like the ostrich or emu. The cassowary is a native to the tropical forests of New Guinea and a familiar guest to the people in Klasow.

The birds play high in the trees, so make sure to bring your own binocular. Along the way we have the chance to see butterflies and other bird species. The local guide will also show you several species of tropical plants that the indigenous people use as a herb for traditional medicines and which wood kinds that are used to make hunting gear or to construct local houses.
