Day 1 Jakarta - Rangkasbitung - Anyer

In the morning we drive to Rangkasbitung, the capital city of district Lebak. Here we visit the Multatuli museum, where the history of Max Havelaar took place centuries ago. Then we continue our way to Anyer on the west coast of Java. From your hotel you can already see the Krakatau.

Day 2 Krakatau

After breakfast we leave at 8AM with a speedboat for the small island Anak Krakatau. The Krakatau is an active volcano in Indonesia, in Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra. The volcano is especially known for its very heavy eruption in 1883. On Monday morning on the 27th of August in 1883 the Krakatau exploded. The mountain rose, broke open and collapsed, after which the sea flowed into the gaping hole. The effect was a catastrophic eruption. The explosion had an estimated volcanic explosivity index (VEI) of 6 and would have been roughly four times as powerful as the Tsar Bomba, the most powerful thermonuclear weapon ever detonated. The mountain disappeared for a big part below the water surface. Three small parts of the island remained. In 1932, at the same place appeared a new mountain that spit ash plumes and sulfur: Anak Krakatau, the "child of Krakatau". Since the 50’s Anak Krakatau has been growing with an average 13 cm per week. The new island can – if conditions allow – be visited by tourists in the context of guided visits. We climb the Anak Krakatau to the first level. We have lunch on the beach of the Krakatau. After lunch we head off to Ujung Kulon. Overnightstay in the Fauna accommodation (with AC). In the late afternoon we walk to Karang Copong for an unforgettable sunset. Dinner around 7 PM in the restaurant.

Day 3 Ujung Kulon - Tanjung Layar and Cidaon

One of the few places on Java where nature takes its course is National park Ujung Kulon. In the park you won’t meet any tigers and your chance to see a rhinoceros is less than 10%. But you will see wild reindeer and other cattle and many different birds, like the colourful Kingfisher. The islands of Ujung Kulon offer beautiful coral, where you can enjoy snorkelling. Don’t expect too much of the accommodation: it’s quite simple, but alright.

Day 4 Ujung Kulon, Handeuleum island and Cigenter river

After an early breakfast we go to the island Handeleum. Here we make a canoe trip on Gigenter river and then a short but warm trekking through the jungle of the park. On the way back we stop at the feeding ground, where we have a good chance to see a lot of wild animals. Then we sail back to Anyer. Overnight stay in Anyer.

Day 5 Anyer-Baduy-Bogor

This is going to be a long travel day, but with a special highlight: A visit to the Baduy people. The Baduy are divided into tw groups: the Baduy Dalam (inside-Baduy) and the Baduy Luar (outside-Baduy). Strangers aren’t allowed to make contact with the Baduy Dalam, the Baduy Luar on the other hand have, although rarely, contact with the outside world. The population of about 400 Baduy Dalam, which forms the so called inner-circle, is composed of 40 families Kajeroan that live in the three villages Cibeo, Cikertawana and Cikeusik in Tanah Larangan. The Baduy Dalam strictly respect their severe taboo system. The Baduy Dalam have a Pu'un, a spiritual leader. Only a Pu'un is allowed to visit the holy ground in Arca Domas on mount Kendeng. In contrast with the Baduy Luar, the Baduy Dalam have hardly been influenced by the islam. The Baduy Luar, which form the outer circle of the Baduy, live in 22 villages. They form the barrier between the outside world and the holy inner circle. They apply the taboo system less strictly than the Baduy Dalam and are more willing to accept modern influence in their daily life. Some even work in big cities and cities like Jakarta, Bogor and Bandung. In some villages they eat meat, though livestock farming is still forbidden. After our visit to the Baduy we drive to Bogor.

Day 6 Bogor-Ujung Genteng, the sea turtles

In the morning we visit the Botanical garden of Bogor, the Kebun Raya. In this garden you will see everything that grows and flourishes in Indonesia. Then we drive via a beautiful route to the south coast. Via Pelabuhan Ratu we drive along the coast on a very bad road to Ujung Genten, a small fishing village. In the evening giant sea turtles come here ashore to lay their eggs on the beach. Surfing is very good here and there are two waterfalls that are worth visiting. At weekends it can be very busy with local tourists.

Day 7 Ujung Genteng

Nothing on the program for today. U can relax near the swimming-pool or on the beach, or, if you want, make short trips in the surroundings. Your guide and driver are at your disposal all day.

Day 8 Ujung Genteng - Bandung

If you haven’t seen the waterfalls yet, we stop at the Gigansa and Cikaso waterfall on our way to Bandung. We arrive in Bandung in the afternoon.

Bogor

Bogor (Buitenzorg) is located 50km south of Jakarta and is best known for its Botanical Garden. It often rains, so it’s comfortably cool and assures lush vegetation. In the Botanical gardens you can walk through the park where many plant species grow and you can visit the orchid greenhouse.
Unfortunately maintenance is minimal today, which means that, for example the old little Dutch cemetery, looks somewhat dilapidated.
Next to Bogor is Taman Safari Indonesia, a big safari park where, among other animals, you still can see a real Sumatran tiger.
The Cibeureum waterfalls are located on a short distance from Bogor. From Bogor you can travel to Bandung via the highway of the Puncak pass.
